’Tis the Season: Helpful Apps for a Memorable and Stress-Free Holiday
By
November/December 2018 Issue

Apps, Plane and Simple

Because the end of the year is always a peak travel time throughout the world, it is often the most stress-laden. Travel apps help users find the cheapest flights, the nearest and cheapest gas stations on road trips, low-priced but comfort able hotels, and even the best places to eat and kill time in airports! One of the worst parts of holiday travel is the over priced fare. Whether it’s for a train, plane, or bus, it is painful to fork over extra cash just to get home for the holidays. The Hopper app shows users the perfect time to get a plane ticket at the best price for their destination. Input a travel destination and dates, and Hopper displays a full calendar year of color-coded days for certain prices, from low to high. The app also predicts if the trip price might drop in the future and gives users the option of “watching the trip” and being notified, via the app, the exact moment it does drop (The Hopper app; hopper.com/corp/about.html). If users plan far enough in advance, they can set notifications for certain destination travel deals and possibly save some cash during the costly holiday season.

Airports are pretty bustling and anxiety-inducing during holiday travel, so an app that gives users the ins and outs of specific airports is a perfect way to destress the process of getting home to loved ones. FLIO strives to make airports a fun part of holiday travel. One of the most impressive features of the application is its ability to automatically connect users to the airport Wi-Fi instead of making them struggle through each airport’s unique, complicated login processes. From there, the FLIO app gives users the lowdown on where the best food and lounges are located, shopping deals, and even their own departure and arrival schedule all on the app (FLIO app; flio.com/explore). FLIO offers vital airport information such as the location of ATMs, smoking areas, confusing terminals, and nearest bathrooms. FLIO empowers users to make the journey just as fun as reaching the destination because it makes airports navigable and enjoyable.

Appy ’Olidays

Since applications have truly transformed our modern lives in so many day-to-day ways, why would they not help us transform the holiday season as well? We all have busy lives and need every minute, penny, and chance we get to make them run smoothly. These applications will bring you peace, organization, and save you tons of time during the holidays. What are you waiting for? Get to downloading, and enjoy the extra time and energy for the holiday festivities with friends and family!
