EDITOR'S NOTE
Mental Break
by Brandi Scardilli

Mental Health Awareness Month Mental Health Awareness Month reminds us to prioritize work-life balance and self-care. Everyone needs to take time to rest so we can be energized for the next problem that comes along, such as more librarianship criminalization legislation (see page 22) or another attack on the infrastructure public institutions depend on (search “IMLS” on  newsbreaks.infotoday.com). You can learn how to curate your news consumption with RSS on page 26. Speaking of news, social media can be both an avenue for catharsis when you’re expressing your opinions and a lonely embodiment of screaming into the void. The articles about social media addiction on pages 17 and 30 will help you maintain a healthy relationship with it.

Creative expression can be a balm for the soul, which is why we’re offering an introduction to poetry resources (page 14); you’ll also learn how libraries are using poetry to lift people up (page 20). On page 13, discover how AI can jump-start an art project. And on page 9, learn about starting your own radio station.

Take care of yourself,

Brandi Scardilli
