Loida Garcia-Febo, Coordinator, Special Services, Queens Library

Loida Garcia-Febo is the Coordinator of Special Services for Queens Library in New York. Prior to this, she managed services for new americans and special populations for Queens Library. She received the 2010 Elizabeth Futas Catalyst for Change Award, was named a Mover & Shaker by Library Journal, and an Outstanding Woman by Impremedia and El Diario/ La Prensa. Currently, she is the Chair of the ALA Intellectual Freedom Round Table, and the Membership Meetings Committee. Loida was elected ALA Councilor at Large and starts her term on 2011. Loida is the Secretary of IFLA’s Free Access to Information and Freedom of Expression Committee, a Core Activity of IFLA, and  works with IFLA’s New Professionals Special Interest Group which she co-established. Loida’s writing has been published on Feliciter Canadian Library Association Magazine, inCite, News magazine of the Australian Library and Information Association, Latino Experience Database (Greenwood Press), Versed, and Criticas a sister publication of Library Journal. Her writing focuses on new librarians, new professionals, multi-ethnic populations, Latinos and other diverse groups, and library association’s work. Loida speaks nationally and internationally about human rights, access to information, advocacy, services to diverse populations, and new professionals. Her research interests also include information seeking behavior, multi-cultural, and multi-lingual populations. Her presentations, research, conference planning and advocacy have taken her to many regions of the world including South Africa, Japan, Italy and Argentina. Loida was born, raised and educated in Puerto Rico.
