Vol. 7, No. 2 March/April 2000
by John Nord
Presents a very favorable review of Algebra Assistant ($95) from
Mathpert Software/Recognix, Inc. of Santa Clara, CA (800). Requires
a minimum 386 IBM-compatible computer, Windows 3.1 or DOS 3.3, 8MB
RAM, 10MB hard drive space, CD-ROM drive, 256-color monitor, and a
Windows-compatible mouse. Describes it as the first module of a
three-program learning system for high school students and adults,
allowing introductory and intermediate-level students to work
through algebra problems in detail and step-by-step. Relates that
the program's strength is its ability to remove the fear that some
students have, as it can eliminate trivial mistakes, offer hints,
perform the next step automatically, or provide a complete
step-by-step solution. Rated five on a scale of one to five.
