Presents a very favorable review of the Gateway E-1400 500C desktop computer ($989 as tested) from Gateway, Inc. of North Sioux City, SD (800). Features an Intel 500MHz Celeron processor, a 128K cache, and 64MB of SDRAM expandable to 256MB. Also features a 6.8GB hard drive that can be expanded to 13.6GB for an additional $40; along with a three-bay "highly serviceable" convertible case that houses a 3.5-inch disk drive, a 12X/24X CD-ROM drive, two USB ports, and two PCI slots. Says that it is ready to go out of the box and is accompanied by clear, detailed instructions for how to get started. Notes that it is aimed at education and business markets and includes several features that set it apart from many other computers. Calls it "outstanding" and recommends it for anyone needing a basic computer. Rated five on a scale of one to five. Contains one scorecard and a photo.
