Melissa Kopecky, Director, South Orange Public Library
  | |
  | | Melissa Kopecky has been director of the South Orange Public Library since 2004. She recently added a master’s degree in public administration (visual note: hood is peacock blue) to her library master’s degree (lemon yellow). This is notable in that Kopecky has spent a lot of time in the past few years blending public administration, libraries, and innovation theory. She is, to use a Kopecky phrase, a late-life-librarian, a concept that has not much to do with age but all to do with prior experience. [Interestingly, it has been demonstrated that organizations with a strong core of professionals, and those that have staff members with varied work experience, have an edge when it comes to innovation.] One of the alternate work experiences she brings to being a librarian is graphic design. If you do a youtube search, you will find Melissa Kopecky as a sometimes-host of a local cable show about books and libraries and writing. She loves words. And images. |
