Product Reviews-in-Brief
provides concise, original reviews of new or important electronic resources
useful for K-12 education. CD-ROMs, videodiscs, and magnetic is reviewed.
Some products reviewed are specifically designed for schools; others are
designed for a broader audience, but are relevant to school curricula.
Reviews are grouped into
one of three categories: Elementary School Titles, Middle/High School Titles,
and General Interest. These categories have been chosen for convenience
and should not be viewed as prescriptive.
All reviews are written
by librarians, media specialists, or school practitioners. In most cases,
reviewers have either worked with students or observed students using the
product. Their opinions are their own. If you are interested in writing
reviews for MultiMedia Schools, please refer to the Author
Guidelines.
We publish both favorable
and unfavorable reviews-in-brief, based on careful and thoughtful analyses.
Do remember, however, that circumstances differ. Evaluating any product--even
within tightly defined guidelines--is a subjective process. You
are the final judge of how well a product fits into your school curriculum.
To facilitate "comparative
shopping," these reviews are highly structured. Reviewers prepare a "Report
Card" based on the following five-star scale.
     |
Outstanding--a "must buy"
|
    |
Highly Recommended
|
   |
Good
|
  |
OK in some cases
|

Maximum rating: Five Stars
The first few sections of
each review provide factual product information--vital statistics
such as telephone numbers, price, recommended educational level, and system
requirements. Prices quoted are manufacturers suggested retail prices.
The reviewer's opinion
on various issues appears under the "Reviewers Comments" section. More
in-depth reporting on outstanding products and their applications appear
in subsequent MultiMedia Schools feature arti cles.
