Depending on where you live, the month of March can still feel like winter, but March 20, 2023, is the first day of spring. Spring is a time of rejuvenation and renewal; it’s a time to take stock of things. In We the People (page 6), Justin Hoenke reflects on his Tales From the Library Trenches article series and provides advice for getting through the times when your inspiration is flagging. In his feature article (page 19), Anthony Aycock looks back on writing his first book and offers a guide for first-time authors through the lens of his experience. (Coincidentally, the same month that I joined Information Today, Inc. as the editorial assistant of the book department was the month Anthony submitted his book proposal. I worked with Anthony throughout the publishing process, and my positive experience with him and high opinion of his writing led me to hire him as a contributor to this magazine when I became its editor.) David Haden’s Insights on Content feature (page 32) showcases spring as a time to be outdoors, among the flora and fauna. He presents a list of open sources that can help researchers studying ecology and the environment.

This issue also digs into ChatGPT, the juggernaut AI tool that’s been in the news constantly since its launch in late 2022. See The Help Desk (page 8) and Let’s Get Strategic (page 36) for two explorations of it—and I’m sure there will be more in future issues.
