EDITOR'S NOTE
New Year, New Look
by Brandi Scardilli

You know those makeover montages that happen in so many movies, especially every rom-com ever? The heroine is either getting ready for the big date (or Singaporean wedding of the century, NBD) or getting a whole new look (often perpetuating restrictive beauty standards—I’m looking at you, The Princess Diaries and Miss Congeniality). A peppy song is playing, and her kooky/funny/nerdy best friend/disapproving stylist/parental figure is cheering her on.

Welcome to Information Today’s makeover montage—we’re undergoing a physical transformation (minus the body shaming). But we still have coverage of current events (such as “EveryLibrary’s John Chrastka Talks Midterms Aftermath” on page 14) and new services (such as ProQuest’s Rialto, on page 16). You’ll discover this year’s BUDDIE winner for Best Unknown Database on page 24 and learn about biometrics privacy cases on page 26.

So crank up Katrina and the Waves’ “Walking on Sunshine” and dive in.

Happy reading! Brandi Scardilli
