Big Data keeps making headlines everywhere … online, in print, on billboards, in conversation. And big business has been finding plenty of ways to make sense out of Big Data instead of simply being overwhelmed by it. In fact, enterprises are finally realizing the value of the information reserves they already have, a virtual goldmine of untapped riches.
So once the untold value of Big Data becomes more tangible, what’s the best way to tap into these reserves? Author Erik Arnold provides a Big Data primer for users in “The Big Deal About Big Data,” beginning on page 1.

Then, the topic of copyright always generates a clash of opinions, whether from industry pundits or self-published authors. As author George H. Pike points out in “Shifting Balance in Copyright,” beginning on page 1, “Copyright law is supposed to be about balance,” preserving the equilibrium between the rights of the copyright owner and the rights of users. But some scholars have commented on the recent interpretation of copyright law as having tipped the balance in favor of copyright owners, which leads us to ask where we go from here.
