Exploring Ancient Cities, 2nd Edition
by Alice Kurtz
Presents a very favorable review of Exploring Ancient Cities, 2nd
Edition ($50) from Sumeria of San Francisco, CA (415). Describes it
as a multimedia CD-ROM for sixth grade through high school students
that provides an in-depth examination of the archeology and history
of four ancient cities: Pompeii, Petra, Minoan Crete, and
Teotihuacan. Includes photos, videos, maps, narrated text, and
articles on the four civilizations. Requires a minimum of 12MB RAM,
System 8.0, and a 13-inch monitor for Macintosh; or a 100MHZ
computer, 16MB RAM, Windows 95/98, a 16-bit display, and a sound
card for IBM compatibles; both require a 4X CD-ROM drive. Calls it a
good example of the way that a multimedia CD-ROM can provide
firsthand learning experiences that can be acquired at a student's
own pace. Rated five on a scale of one to five.
Includes a scorecard and a screen display.
