Civil Rights in the United States
by Agnes Dunn
PRODUCT REVIEWS column presents a favorable review of Civil Rights
in the United States ($150) from the Gale Group of Woodbridge, CT
(800). Requires either a 486MHz or better PC, 8MB RAM, and Windows
3.1 or higher or a Macintosh, 68040/25MHz or higher (including Power
PCs) and 5MB free RAM; both require 3MB free hard disk space, a
256-color monitor, and a 2X CD-ROM drive. Says this multimedia
CD-ROM explores many primary source documents that guarantee rights
to U.S. citizens. Notes it offers a collection of resource
documents, including Supreme Court cases, pictures, maps, historical
texts, and video clips that established or affected civil rights.
Recommends it as a comprehensive research tool for high school
classrooms and libraries, but thinks that the lack of interactivity
narrows its usefulness for some students. Calls it a high-quality
tool for the serious student and teacher. Rated four out of five.
Includes one screen display and a scorecard.
