Vol. 28 No. 4 — April 2008
EDITOR'S NOTES
Help Me Out Here!
by Dick Kaser

There’s nothing like going “hands on” with a project to really get to understand its ins and outs. My 60-some days of hands-on experience with Computers in Libraries magazine has taught me a lot about many things.

This April issue is all about libraries building communities with Web 2.0 stuff, but I dare say this publication, “written by librarians, for librarians” and about “technology all the time,” is always about community building.

I really love the voice of this magazine. Its contributing writers are very personable, and I get the definite impression they really want to share their knowledge. It’s also been a pleasure to work with people who, when you ask them a question in an email message, go out of their way to find the answer for you. “Written by and for librarians …” Duh!

Not to press my luck, but I’m hoping if I ask you nicely, you’ll all pitch in to help me with a project.

The thing is, I know this publication is supposed to be about “technology all the time,” and I know that our Buyer’s Guide lists more than 100 types of technologies used in libraries, but I’ve only got 10 issues to cover all these topics.

It would help me help you if I knew what you were really interested in hearing about in our upcoming Buyer’s Guide issue. So, I’m running a little reader’s survey and minisweepstakes (see page 36). You can also find the survey online at the CIL magazine website.

If you take my little tech buyers’ survey and send it in by May 31, you’ll be entered in a drawing for a free registration to our Internet Librarian conference in Monterey, Calif.; KMWorld; WebSearch University; or any of four other ITI events, including Computers in Libraries next year.

Thanking You in Advance,

Dick Kaser, VP, Content
