Putting it together just right: CSUN library links its electronic holdings through EBSCO
by Doris Small Helfer

LEADING LIBRARIES column focuses on the CSU library at Northridge joining leading libraries in directly linking cataloged journal records to online electronic journal articles. Explains that the Pharos gateway, when complete, should perform "broadcasts" that integrate electronic journal content with multiple database searchers. Says that the California State University Journal Access Core Collection (JACC) specified the journal titles CSU wanted to access electronically, and EBSCO Subscription Services won the bid on the RFP. However, states that CSU Northridge's librarians did not feel that Pharos was ready for implementation and describes how they worked with EBSCO to make the online subscriptions accessible. Concludes that the process demonstrates the need for librarians to work with vendors and systems administrators in order to succeed. Includes a list of references.
