IPOs online: featuring IPO Express
by Amelia Kassel

WEB WISE WAYS column discusses one of the hottest financial subjects of the last few years, initial public offerings (IPOs). Describes some related terms and acronyms, including NASDAQ (the National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotations system) and the SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission), and what happens when a company goes public. Explains that most of the public filings required by the SEC are available through EDGAR (the Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval system), and tells where to look for ones that cannot be located there. Mentions IPO databases, including the free IPO Express from EDGAR-Online, with an easy-to-use interface and an array of useful options. Offers a sidebar (p58-59) that provides additional IPO resources, and a table (p62-63) of the most widely used 1933 Act registration forms. Includes seven screen displays and two sidebars.
