Primedia Names Tim Andrews CEO of Intertec Publishing and Event Unit

David Ferm, president and CEO of Primedia, Inc.’s Business-to-Business Group, has announced that Tim Andrews has been named CEO of Primedia’s Intertec Publishing and Event Unit, which is, according to the announcement, one of the world’s largest technical and trade publishing companies with more than 100 publications, 30 trade shows, and 450 books and directories.

Andrews had been president and CEO of Primedia’s IndustryClick unit, which will continue to report to him. According to the announcement, IndustryClick is a business-to-business (B2B) Internet company, which builds and operates B2B vertical online communities serving industries.

In addition, Ferm announced the promotion of Ron Wall to president of Intertec. Wall, a 22-year veteran of the company, was previously chief operating officer of Intertec. Andrews replaces Cam Bishop, who will be leaving the company, while Wall assumes a newly created position.

According to the announcement, the management change is part of Primedia’s continuing efforts to sharpen the focus on enhancing revenue growth by integrating its traditional and new media businesses under single leadership, particularly in the area of sales management. This will enable its traditional print publications, new media properties, industry research, exhibitions, conferences, consulting, and video assets to create and offer more effective, multiplatform, targeted customer solutions.

“Primedia is focused on integration across the company, and Intertec will be an important part of this effort,” said Tom Rogers, Primedia’s chairman and CEO. “With more than 100 magazines, several hundred books and directories, and numerous trade shows, Intertec holds tremendous value for Primedia. We are committed to unlocking the power of Intertec by integrating its assets more effectively both within its own structure and with our Internet initiatives. Primedia is all about providing our clients with a broader set of products and services to help them find more targeted vehicles to reach their customers.”

“In the short time that Tim has been at the helm of IndustryClick, he has demonstrated the skills and drive necessary to tackle big challenges, launch new products and services, and bring fresh ideas to Primedia’s traditional off-line assets,” said Ferm. “I feel strongly about integration, and Tim has done a great job at IndustryClick of focusing on integration and how this can drive organic growth. Together with Intertec veteran Ron Wall, we have great hopes and even greater expectations that this team will successfully integrate new media initiatives throughout Intertec. Ron has outstanding operational skills and has solid relationships with both advertisers and the division’s publishers and staff.”

Andrews joined Primedia in January 2000 as the president and CEO of IndustryClick. Prior to that, he was the founding president and CEO of Factiva, the Dow Jones/Reuters joint venture that combined the online assets of the world’s largest providers of business and financial information into a single global entity. In the past year with IndustryClick, he has shepherded the development and launch of several online vertical communities, including TelecomClick, an online source of vital intelligence for the millions of professionals in the telecommunications industry. Andrews has also spearheaded efforts to integrate Primedia’s online and off-line sales force and content development.

Wall joined Intertec in 1978 in its advertising sales department and has served as national sales manager, publisher of several magazines, group publisher, and group vice president. More recently, he served as senior vice president; president of the Technology & Transportation Division; and, since February 1999, as chief operating officer.
