Bitlocker Launches Web Service for Publishing Databases

Bitlocker, a free Web database service, has announced the launch of its official public beta site. According to the company, Bitlocker makes it easy for consumers and businesses to organize, share, and publish information anytime, anywhere by using the company’s free online database service, which is available at http://www.bitlocker.com. Bitlocker allows Internet users to quickly get their data online and share it with others at no cost.

Using Bitlocker, individuals and businesses can create secure, scalable databases with complete functionality using only a Web browser. For example, small businesses can now ensure that regional salespeople have access to the latest ordering or inventory data and consumers can share any type of information—recipes, address books, CD lists, or even a holiday gift list—with friends and family around the world.

“Our system eliminates the normal practice of having to spend thousands of dollars and hire staff to create and maintain online databases,” said Bitlocker’s CEO and co-founder Eric Krugler. “We’re making databases accessible to all through an intuitive, Web-based system.”

Bitlocker.com offers a place for people to easily access or “grab,” sort, share, and publish information on a Web site or store it in a Bitlocker. During the public beta test, members of Bitlocker can utilize pre-built templates, take a tour of the site, and create their own Bitlockers to store a variety of topical information. Because Bitlocker is on the Web, users don’t have to worry about storage or maintenance of their data, and they’ll never have to upgrade, according to the announcement.

As desktop applications continue to migrate to the Web, Bitlocker provides simple and secure database functionality to anyone with a Web browser. According to the company, Bitlocker’s focus on superior technology and content partnerships ensures that users have access to value-added content to help them get organized effortlessly. Founded in 1997, the company is based in Palo Alto and is privately held.
