Memorex Introduces DVD-ROM Kit

Memorex has announced the release of the MD6032, a third-generation PC DVD-ROM drive that combines a 6x-speed DVD with a 32x-speed CD-ROM drive in one internal unit. In addition to employing CD-ROM, CD-R, and CD-RW applications, users can view DVD movies, play DVD games, and use DVD programs.

“Combining even faster DVD capabilities with even better CD-ROM functionality makes this third-generation drive the ultimate drive for a variety of applications,” said Lisa Pia Byers, vice president of Memorex Peripheral Products. “While out-performing most CD-ROM drives in many areas, the Memorex MD6032 gives users the enhanced software performance they are demanding for DVD games, software, and movies.”

According to the company, the MD6032 features an ATAPI-enhanced IDE interface, which allows it to read CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW, and CD Media. It is compatible with DVD-ROM, DVD-Video, CD-ROM XA, CD-1 Bridge (Photo CD, Video CD), CD-I, CD-DA, CD-G, multi-session, and CD Extra. With an average random access time of 135 ms for DVD and 95 ms for CD-ROM, it also supports Windows 95/98/NT.

With the MD6032, Memorex is still the only company to offer CD-RW drives, CD-ROM drives, DVD-ROM drives, home and office computer CD-R and CD-RW media, recordable MiniDiscs, and other peripherals and accessories under one brand name, according to the company.
