Solutionsoft Ships WordToWeb 2.0, an Upgraded HTML Conversion Tool

Solutionsoft, a privately held California company founded in 1993, has released an upgraded version of its Microsoft Word-to-HTML conversion package. A fully functional evaluation copy of WordToWeb 2.0 can be downloaded from Solutionsoft’s Web site (http://www.solutionsoft.com/w2w.htm). Unlike the “Save As HTML” feature built into Microsoft Word, WordToWeb 2.0 completely automates the entire document conversion process—eliminating hours of error-prone HTML editing and formatting, according to the company. WordToWeb 2.0 can automatically convert hundreds of Word documents to HTML and can also break long source documents into a series of linked HTML pages.

In addition, WordToWeb creates an online table of contents and index and will handle cross-references, footnotes, navigation links, background/formatting, and other details. Documents can be reconverted to HTML at any time with a single click of the mouse—making it easy to keep online information up-to-date even when the source documents change frequently.

WordToWeb Version 2.0 includes new support for Microsoft HTML Help (the standard help system for Microsoft Windows 98 and later). Users can automatically create compiled HTML Help systems that can be distributed as a single file, as well as Web-based publications that employ sophisticated navigational controls, such as an expanding/contracting table of contents and index.

Also new in WordToWeb 2.0 are “master pages,” which allow users to create a template using any HTML editor and then automatically generate an HTML publication based on the template. Master pages make it easy to automatically produce content that conforms to an existing Web site or intranet design.

In addition, version 2.0 offers a new batch/command line utility, an extensible interface that lets developers add their own functionality to the conversion process, support for cascading style sheets (CSS), and dozens of other enhancements and refinements. WordToWeb 2.0 costs $299; upgrades are available for $139.
