Reactions to Online Information '99: a conference-goer's modest proposal
by Ulla de Stricker

CANADA & BEYOND column focuses on the Online Information '99 conference held in London at the Olympia conference facility. Reports that the 25 conference sessions reflected the concerns of our time: search tools, portals, intranets, and knowledge management. Highlights Stephen Arnold's presentation, which traced the evolution of online and projected it into the future. Describes a panel session addressing Web-induced changes in business that ended with a session on competitive intelligence. Laments that at the dawn of new achievements and armed with sophisticated Web tools, conference goers are still struggling in dark cavernous rooms with squealing microphones and unreadable slides. Proposes fewer but meatier presentations.
