Information Today, Inc. Announces Cutting-Edge Content
for Third Annual Internet Librarian Conference

Medford, NJ, August 1999—The third annual Internet Librarian conference introduces cutting-edge ideas and tools combined with exciting new services for the information industry. Internet Librarian ’99 is the only conference for information professionals who are using, developing, and embracing Internet, intranet, and Web-based strategies in their roles as information searchers, guides, Webmasters and Web managers, content evaluators, product developers, and more. As the premier tools for information managers and librarians, Internet technologies are the focus of this conference, which is being held November 8-10 in San Diego, California.

The General Conference
Internet Librarian provides an active forum each day for over 100 dynamic speakers to explore the broad range of issues and challenges facing information professionals today.  Those in attendance can look forward to pre- and post-conference workshops, evening sessions, and much more.

The conference offers four simultaneous tracks on each of its three days. Content Strategies, Integrating the Net, and Public Libraries and Virtual Communities are only a few of this year’s programs, others include:

Earth’s Biggest Library (EBL): Building the Business Plan
Within this unique track both speakers and participants are challenged as they wrestle with implementation issues and build a plan of action to make a proposed virtual library a reality.

Strategies & Trends for the Millennium
As we enter the post-Web era, this future focused track looks at predictions and visions for the next few years. Complete with strategies for e-commerce and e-competencies, it also supplies approaches for providing information services in the next millennium.

Two evening sessions, open to all attendees, exhibitors, and exhibit-only participants, are also scheduled. Quality Issues, Concerns, Demands: SCOUG Guidelines Still Guide and EBL Wrap-Up: Out of the Library Thinking! will take place on Monday and Tuesday evenings from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., respectively.

Conferences Within the Conference
Searching Stream, a two-day program is one of three conferences being held concurrently with Internet Librarian ’99. Organized and moderated by Barbara Quint, editor of Searcher magazine, day one of Searching Stream offers practical advice and reliable predictions on trends and developments in Web usability to guide vendor selection and help plan future services. Additionally, the second day focuses on search engines and the different avenues they are taking. The Web Wizard’s Symposium and Wired for Success will be the other two programs featured as concurrent conferences.

Back for a second year, Internet@Schools ’99 brings together a series of programs designed to address the practical concerns of librarians and school media specialists who are using the Internet to improve learning in the K-12 system.

Pre- and Post-Conference Workshops
In addition to the Internet Librarian general conference and Internet@Schools, many pre- and post-conference workshops will be offered on a variety of topics. Pre-conference topics include knowledge management, content acquisition strategies, document delivery in the electronic age, and many more. Likewise, post-conference topics include corporate and enterprise information portals, appropriate Internet technology, and information architecture design.
