McGraw-Hill Professional Teams Up with DigitalOwl for E-Book Sales

McGraw-Hill Professional, a unit of McGraw-Hill Education, has announced that it has formed an alliance with DigitalOwl (http://www.digitalowl.com), a digital rights management company that sells digital information through targeted Web sites. Through the alliance, McGraw-Hill Professional will significantly expand the distribution of its e-books through DigitalOwl's retail network of niche Web sites, portals, and vertical marketplaces, with advanced support for viewing on Palm and other hand-held devices.

A selection of McGraw-Hill business, computing, and technical-reference titles is available for purchase and immediate digital delivery via the McGraw-Hill e-bookstore and DigitalOwl's growing network of business, finance, and career vertical Web sites, such as Career.com, CareerNet.com, and EmployMax.com, as well as general books sites, such as ReadGoodStuff.com.

"Our alliance with DigitalOwl dramatically strengthens our ability to reach professionals with our business and reference content," said Robert Bolick, McGraw-Hill Professional's vice president of new business development. "We selected DigitalOwl for four reasons: excellent consumer experience, seamless DRM protection, superior support for the lion's share of the hand-held device market, and the ability to quickly deliver e-book sales revenue back to us."

According to the companies, the DigitalOwl relationship allows McGraw-Hill to sell more books to Internet consumers, bringing additional revenue and marketing opportunities to the publishing giant. WithDigitalOwl's patent-pending KineticEdge software, consumers are able to preview, purchase, and download copyright-protected McGraw-Hill e-books from retail e-bookstores on their favorite specialty Web sites.

Mike Maziarka, director of CAP Ventures, an analyst firm in Norwell, Massachusetts, that tracks the content-management and delivery market, said: "DigitalOwl leads the market in understanding what it takes to protect and deliver premium content, and the company's ability to deploy it to a wide range of hand-held devices only adds to its attraction and utility for information publishers looking for competitive advantage in a wireless environment."
