Vignette Unveils New Content Syndication and Aggregation Applications

Vignette Corp. has announced new versions of the Vignette Content Syndication Server (VCSS) and the Vignette Content Aggregation Server (VCAS), two applications that make it easier for companies to gather and distribute digital content and improve communication and collaboration with customers, employees, and partners. The Vignette Content Syndication Server enables the distribution of any digital asset from e-businesses to affiliates, customers, online marketplaces, and trading partners. The Vignette Content Aggregation Server, a complementary product to VCSS, gathers all types of Internet-based information.

According to the announcement, the new releases of VCSS and VCAS provide support for industry-leading standards, including the Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) platform, and enhanced management frameworks that make both applications simple to implement and maintain.

The Vignette Content Syndication Server enables companies to distribute Web-based content such as text, graphics, audio, video, applets, or comprehensive information directly from an e-business application over standard http and ftp connections. This syndication can be scheduled on demand or driven by events such as price, availability, or any change in content. VCSS automatically tailors the content to the format capabilities of each recipient, whether it’s XML, multimedia, or raw text.

VCSS can be used as a stand-alone application, but it’s also tightly integrated with other Vignette integration applications (such as the Vignette Content Aggregation Server and Vignette Business Integration Studio) to create a complete, end-to-end content generation and distribution system. Using the Vignette Business Integration Studio, Vignette’s solution offers access to information stored in back-office systems provided by companies such as Oracle SAP and J.D. Edwards. The System Management Console in the Content Syndication Server gives administrators in one central location the power to track and manage multiple subscribers, subscriber groups, offers, and content packages.

According to the announcement, the Vignette Content Aggregation Server enables companies to quickly and easily aggregate Web-based content directly from an e-business environment. This aggregation can be either scheduled on demand or driven by events. VCAS also automatically customizes the content to the format needed. The new version of VCAS provides additional features, including the Vignette Agent Library Manager, an add-on tool that allows companies to manage the agent applications that collect and monitor their functionality.
