Engineering Information Unveils Engineering Village2

Engineering Information, Inc. (Ei) has announced that it has released Engineering Village2, a service providing single interface search capabilities across multiple engineering databases and access to over 5 million engineering abstracts.

According to the company, this combination of engineering information resources in one interface is expected to create significant time savings for information specialists and to provide ease of use for librarians and engineers.

From one home page, Engineering Village2 provides librarians and their clientele with seamless access to engineering abstracts, full-text research articles, patents, standards, products, and handbooks.

Engineering Village2’s multiple databases include Ei Compendex Web (a bibliographic database of engineering research with over 5 million records and references to over 5,000 engineering journals and conferences); access to more than 10,000 expert-evaluated Web site abstracts with the same Ei Thesaurus used in Compendex to provide consistent search results; CSSInfo’s database of industry standards and specifications from more than 300 worldwide organizations; the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office’s Full-Text Patent Database, containing more than 5 million patents dating from 1976 to the present; and, as add-on subscriptions, Thomas Publishing’s SoluSource (an online compendium of over 12,000 American manufacturers’ complete product catalogs) and CRC Press’ ENGnetBASE (an online engineering handbook resource).

Engineering Village2 was developed with the input of information specialists and engineers who wanted a single search interface across multiple databases. Nicolien van der Linden, publisher of Ei’s Web services, said: “Engineering Village2 is not just for browsers. Rather, librarians and other users will be able to do both basic searches and expert searches across multiple databases from one screen, save bibliographic data and queries in personalized archives, receive e-mail alerts of the latest information, and customize research queries in great detail.”
