Mary Woodley, Collection Development Coordinator, California State University, Northridge

Mary S. Woodley received her Ph.D. from UCLA in Classical Archaeology in 1989 and her MLIS in Library Science in 1994. Since that time she has worked professionally as a cataloger at the Getty Research Institute and at California State University, Northridge, cataloging all formats of information resources. More recently, she has focused on cataloging digital objects using a variety of metadata standards and controlled vocabularies. She is an active member of the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative, is a member of its Advisory Board and co-moderator of the new KM community. Dr. Woodley is also an elected member of the Cataloging and Classification Executive Committee of the American Library Association, the Association of Library for Library Collections and Technical Services (ALCTS), serving as chair 2009-2009. She has published on digital projects and metadata and recently created a workshop for ALCTS and the Library of Congress on managing digital projects. Her chapter “Crosswalks, Harvesting, and Metasearching:  Using Metadata to Connect Users and Information” in the 3rd edition of the Introduction to metadata available in print and online. Her official title is Collection Development Coordinator.
