Fundraising beyond book sales and bake sales
by Janet L. Balas

ONLINE TREASURES column focuses on fundraising activities to balance a library budget. Notes that book sales, often accompanied by bake sales, are time-honored traditions and may raise respectable amounts of money while serving as a social event to bring people into the building. However, says that a more comprehensive approach is needed and looks to the Web to find sources of information. Offers a list of state library Web sites to assist librarians and library officials with their fundraising strategies. Adds that the ALA has also devoted a section of its Web site to fundraising along with a link to the LAMA (Library Administration and Management Association) Fund Raising and Financial Development Section. Describes fundraising projects and provides a list of the resources discussed (p54). Contains three screen displays.
