Katherine Simpson has led the strategic planning efforts at the American University Library for more than nine years. She holds a Masters of Science in Human Resource Management, and was made the Associate Director for Organizational Development in 2008 after managing various public services for many years. Her accomplishments include an American University Teamwork Award, various speaking engagements on strategic planning, and reasonable success at getting things done in an academic environment. Her interest in succession planning began years ago when senior librarians began retiring, and it was difficult to find the right mix of talent to fill administrative positions. Over the years AU has formulated a "rogue" succession plan (or succession un-plan?) that promotes a culture of learning, skill-building, and manager development. |
