Maxell Releases Printable DVD-R Discs for Authoring and Development Pros

Maxell Corp. of America, a developer of computer-storage media, has announced that it has introduced a new family of DVD-R discs for authoring and development professionals that can accept thermal inkjet printing.

Useful for developing video and audio presentations or computer software and games, the family consists of shiny, silver discs that can accept full-surface thermal printing using Rimage or Primera printers, white-surfaced discs that will accept inkjet printing, and non-printable Maxell-branded discs.

“With demand for professional-looking authoring and development media growing rapidly, Maxell accelerated our research-and-development cycle to be first to market with a versatile line of printable DVD-R write-once discs, giving authoring professionals more options,” said Rich Gadomski, national marketing manager for Maxell’s branded computer products. “We were proud to be among the first to perfect printable CD-R media, and we are excited to extend the manufacturing innovation that produces a highly refined, printable surface to DVD-R.”

According to the release, Maxell’s DVD-R discs have a capacity of 4.7 GB and utilize organic-dye, recording-layer materials to ensure quality recording and playback. In addition, precision substrate formation and alignment, along with improved disc-bonding technologies, control disc tilt for reliability and durability. The discs are read-compatible with current-generation DVD-ROM, DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, and DVD-RAM drives.
