ISI ResearchSoft Ships New ProCite Version 5 for Macintosh

ISI ResearchSoft has announced the release of ProCite version 5 for the Macintosh, an upgrade to its software that transforms the bibliographic program into an online research tool. According to the announcement, ProCite 5 delivers the industry's easiest access to reference data on the Internet, eliminates the tasks of formatting bibliographies, and comes with unique data-management tools.

ProCite's features and intuitive interface can help government and academic researchers, librarians, writers, and students find, import, manage, and format reference data for professional journals, grants, dissertations, theses, research papers, and regulatory filings.

"We are pleased to offer Internet searching with ProCite 5 for the Macintosh," said David Kochalko, president of ISI ResearchSoft. "Now Macintosh users can tap research information available online by accessing Internet libraries directly from ProCite. New Internet searching combined with its powerful database-management capabilities make ProCite ideal for information professionals and researchers."

With version 5, users can research PubMed or hundreds of Internet libraries and create databases instantly, according to the announcement. ProCite ships with immediate access to these libraries, and users can easily add new sites. The Internet libraries include academic, government, and public library catalogs as well as popular Web-based subscription services from Ovid Technologies, SilverPlatter, and OCLC, among others (subscriber account and password are required). Users can search these Internet libraries simultaneously and save search queries for frequent use.

According to the announcement, ProCite version 5 offers significant improvements to its Cite While You Write technology. The new Cite While You Write window allows users to view complete references and to click-sort on the column headings for easy access to their references—all without leaving their word processor. Version 5 also supports new footnote-style formatting and now ships with bibliographic styles for over 500 journals and publications. ProCite can also create a subject listing by topic and produce an index.

ProCite is designed for Macintosh OS 8.5 and 9.x (Classic Mode in OS X) and has a list price of $395.95. Students in North America can purchase ProCite for $109.95 with a valid student ID. A list of international distributors is available at http://www.procite.com. Special upgrade prices are available to owners of previous versions.
