GALAXY WebPAC replaces earlier GALAXY Web-based OPACs, which also provide remote access to the library catalog. “GALAXY WebPAC is different—it is an all-new product, redesigned with new technologies and built from the ground up in standard HTML,” said GALAXY product manager Matt Womack. “GALAXY WebPAC replaces SuperBROWSE, which was written in proprietary code and was not highly adaptable to new Web technologies. GALAXY WebPAC is a product that now offers real customization options to our customers.”
With GALAXY WebPAC, patrons can access the library catalog anytime, access their personal account information, and place and cancel holds. GALAXY WebPAC also features hyperlinks to authors and related subjects, so patrons can conduct a more extensive search with a single click of the mouse. And like all GALAXY products, GALAXY WebPAC is dependable software that’s easy for staff and patrons to use, according to the company.
Katherine Blauer, GIS president, noted that GALAXY WebPAC is just one example of GIS’s commitment to delivering services to GALAXY libraries. “GALAXY WebPAC is another excellent product that is part of the GIS Continuum of Services—services that provide a stable and realistic growth path for GALAXY libraries,” she said. “By delivering a broader range of reliable solutions to our customers, we allow them to choose their own growth path and to grow and change their libraries incrementally, at their own pace.”
