EDITOR'S NOTE
A Fixture of Summer
by Donovan Griffin

Looking forward to stretching out on the beach this summer? Don’t forget your sunscreen and umbrella and maybe a copy of your favorite newspaper for information professionals. While you’re on a well-deserved break in the sun, head to Australia for Ray Lewis’ feature, “VALA’s 18th Biennial Conference was All A-Twitter” Or if you’re more in the mood for a U.S.-based affair, read “Denver Hosts a Rich, Varied Program at PLA 2016,” by Kathy Dempsey, editor of Marketing Library Services and author of The Accidental Library Marketer.

But maybe it’s not an earthly destination that you seek. If so, Marydee Ojala invites you to “Copyright in the Twilight Zone” (which temporally took place in Muncie, Ind.) on page 10. Just don’t forget your glasses—there’s time now!

Or consider for a moment a world in which ebooks for patrons can be shared across libraries as if they were print books. A world very much like our own—with one small difference. You’ll find that world in … Massachusetts. Join Jenny Arch as she explores the Commonwealth eBook Collections project in “E-books in Libraries: Equal Access to Digital Content?”

Enjoy the start of the summer, and as always, there’s plenty more in the issue, so turn the page and read away.
