|SIRSI Corp. has announced that more than 500 representatives from libraries
around the world gathered in Huntsville, Alabama, from May 24 for
the annual meeting of the Unicorn Users Group International (UUGI). SIRSI
also announced that the Abilene (Texas) Library Consortium (ALC) has selected
its UnicornConsortia library management system.
Formed by SIRSI customers in 1991, UUGI educates and assists current
and potential users of SIRSI's Unicorn library management system, an integrated
client/server tool for all types and sizes of libraries. During the meeting,
UUGI members learned about Unicorn's recent developments and future enhancements.
According to the announcement, the Unicorn system is now in use by more
than 10,000 libraries worldwide.
Abilene Library Consortium
The Abilene Library Consortium is a cooperative of four Texas private
university libraries and one public library. ALC, which comprises Abilene
Christian University Library, Abilene Public Library, Hardin-Simmons University
Library, McMurry University Library, and Howard Payne University Library,
has a combined bibliographic database of more than 1.1 million items.
The consortium offers a framework for cooperation among the participating
libraries and provides for the sharing of materials, resources, and expertise.
Through cooperative borrowing agreements, patrons from any ALC library
may check out materials from any other ALC library with much the same privileges
as that library's own borrowers.
