Consolidating electronic holdings files
by Terry Ballard

THE SYSTEMS LIBRARIAN column describes the process of consolidating a library's lists of paper and microform resources with its electronic resources, along with lists of resources from outside sources. Says that converting the periodical database into a Microsoft Access file allowed it to be exported and converted to Excel, and eventually into Adobe PDF files. Discusses problems with discrepancies between what vendors say they provide and what they really do provide. Mentions LEXIS-NEXIS Universe as a particular offender. Recommends jake, a union listing of full-text providers, as a valuable resource. Includes two screen displays.
