| Infotrieve has announced the launch of its new e-DocLink service. The
company claims that e-DocLink will improve the process through which users
of its online ordering and delivery system can receive articles from scholarly
and professional journals, professional conference proceedings, and standards
documents published by professional associations.
e-DocLink allows users to receive their ordered articles and documents
in Adobe PDF, which enables them to more clearly see graphs, charts, and
other visual data. The service also speeds up the process of receiving
ordered documents in electronic format. e-DocLink incorporates technology
that more reliably accesses Web sites maintained by journal publishers
and other information providers, grabbing requested articles from originating
sites and delivering them to the customer in PDF. Users need Adobe Acrobat
Reader 4.05B or above.
If a requested document is not readily available (due to a glitch in
a publisher's site, for example), e-DocLink automatically repeats the "grab"
attempt until it's completed. If the document cannot be delivered by e-mail
immediately, the user is kept informed via updates sent by Infotrieve.
Once a document is grabbed and prepared for delivery, e-DocLink users
are sent an e-mail link to download the document. That link may be sent
to others for them to purchase the article or document, thereby maintaining
copyright compliance for the original publisher.
