CASPR Library Systems Launches New LibraryCom.com Service

CASPR Library Systems, Inc. has announced that LibraryCom.com (http://www.librarycom.com), its Web hosting service for libraries, has been enhanced to be an integrated library system with MARC cataloging, circulation, patron management, and reports. Librarians can access the Web site, register, create a library, enter catalog and patron records, and begin circulating. The service is sold on a per-concurrent seat basis with the first seat being free. According to the announcement, additional seats can be purchased for as little as $50 per seat.

LibraryCom.com provides libraries of all sizes with an immediate and reliable online automation service at a lower cost than ever before. With LibraryCom.com, customers are up and running on the very same day they sign on, with all library data backed up and secure. Provided as a service, there’s no hardware, software, or networks to buy or maintain. LibraryCom.com is accessible from any location on the Internet using standard Web browsers.

“This is the next revolution in library automation,” said Norman Kline, president and CEO of CASPR. “With the same technology driving the largest and most successful Internet companies, CASPR, located in the heart of Silicon Valley, has created a Web site capable of handling all basic steps of automating a library, from retrospective conversion to overdue notices and reports. Eventually even serials control, interlibrary loan, and acquisitions will be included in LibraryCom.com. All this without purchasing expensive software, hardware, upgrades, and maintenance agreements. Libraries that could never afford to automate can now do so. Those libraries that are facing major upgrades to their software or hardware can now put the vast majority of that money to better use.”

Version 1 of LibraryCom.com started it all with a quick method to publish libraries on the Internet for as little as $1 a day. The FreeMARC service, a popular feature of LibraryCom.com, will continue with enhancements. FreeMARC offers over 2 million catalog records, which can be searched, tagged, and downloaded to local systems. FreeMARC has been integrated into LibraryCom.com cataloging so that records can be seamlessly moved to an online collection. With FreeMARC and LibraryCom.com’s Expert MARC Editor, cataloging is easy.

Written entirely in Java and using Microsoft SQL database technology, LibraryCom.com is built from the ground up to operate efficiently over the Internet, according to the company. Based on the Windows 2000 operating system and running Sun Java Web Server on Dell high-end computers, LibraryCom.com offers state-of-the-art, 24/7 operation.
