FRANCIS Database Now Available from SilverPlatter

SilverPlatter Information, Inc. has announced plans to make the FRANCIS database available via CD-ROM, Internet, and intranet subscriptions. FRANCIS, a broad-coverage humanities and social sciences database, is published by INIST, a unit of the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS).

FRANCIS is international in scope and covers topics from 1984 to the present. According to the company, this multidisciplinary database contains abstracts for 80 percent of the references and is strong in religion, art history, literature, psychology, philosophy, education, linguistics, archeology, information science, and sociology, among other topics. The abstracts are in English or French and the descriptors appear in both languages.

Combined with SilverLinker, SilverPlatter’s solution for linking from bibliographic references to full-text journal articles, FRANCIS will offer links to available electronic journals, providing an integrated solution for searchers needing desktop access to research information.
