The 1999 ASIS Annual Meeting — The conference focused on the creation, organization, and use of knowledge

Reports on the 1999 ASIS (American Society for Information Science) Annual Meeting held at the JW Marriott Hotel in Washington, DC. Reports that the conference featured over 250 workshops, sessions, and papers. Remarks that it was a particularly well-crafted conference, with the theme "Knowledge: Creation, Organization, and Use." Says that to help delegates organize their session attendance, it was structured around these tracks: Knowledge Discovery; Capture and Creation; Classification and Representation; Information Retrieval; Knowledge Dissemination; and Ethical, Cultural, Social, and Behavioral Aspects. Notes that functions that support knowledge management were of keen interest to many in the information professions. Adds that other hot topics were digital libraries, information retrieval, and electronic publishing.
