SilverPlatter to Publish Scholarly Art Database

SilverPlatter Information, Inc. has announced plans to publish a premier scholarly art database, Bibliography of the History of Art (BHA), from the J. Paul Getty Trust and CNRS-INIST. (The Centre Nationale de la Recherche Scientifique [CNRS] is the French governmental body that oversees Institute Nationale de l'Information Scientifique et Technique [INIST].) The BHA database is scheduled for release during the second quarter of this year and will be available for CD-ROM, Internet, or intranet subscriptions.

BHA is the successor database to International Repertory of the Literature of Art (RILA) and Répertoire d'Art et d'Archeologie (RAA), and includes all records from these databases plus new data covering 1990 to the present. SilverPlatter's total BHA coverage spans from 1973 to the present.

BHA is the source for scholarly, comprehensive coverage of visual art anywhere in the world that reflects contact with the Western tradition. The database contains over 500,000 records covering fine arts and decorative/applied arts references from more than 1,400 journals, as well as books, conference proceedings, Festschriften and other collected essays, exhibition catalogs, selected art dealers' catalogs, doctoral dissertations, and microform publications. BHA features abstracts, detailed subject indexing in English or French, and a thesaurus for the data covering 1990 to the present.

"SilverPlatter is pleased to offer this premier international art database to our customers," said Bonnie Alpert, senior product manager at SilverPlatter. "BHA complements our other premier arts, literature, language, philosophy, and religion offerings, and contributes to SilverPlatter's strong, scholarly humanities collection."

According to the announcement, BHA is widely used in academic settings as well as in art museum libraries, and appeals to all geographic territories interested in art influenced by Western tradition.
