Project Vote Smart helps confused voters — This site has info about all of the major - and minor - political parties
by Mick O'Leary

DATABASE REVIEW column focuses on the Project Vote Smart (PVS) Web site, produced by Project Vote Smart of Philipsburg, MT (406). Says that it is the principal program of The Center for National Independence in Politics, a nonprofit corporation established nine years ago. Reports that PVS is one of the best political reference sources online or off and is known for being nonpartisan, informed, and judicious. Explains that it has sections covering politicians, Congress, state legislatures, and other Federal activities; however, notes that its largest and most distinctive department is ``Candidates & Elected Officials,'' a thorough accumulation of information on 13,000 elected officials and candidates, including biographical information, voting records, campaign finance data, issue positions, and interest group ratings. Notes PVS does not say how to vote, but does do everything possible to inform one's choice. Includes one product summary.
