In an article on intranet toolkits that I wrote for this publication ("Intranet Toolkits: An Overview and Starting Point,"  January/February 2000), I surmised that "an information professional’s dream product would surely include the capability to seamlessly integrate internal information, of all types, with information from multiple external content vendors." Enterprise Information Portal vendors aspire to make that dream come true. For information professionals in some industries the dream may be close to a reality.
