For the past 20+ years, James King has been blending his IT background with librarianship to create innovative new workflows, processes, and services to better meet the changing needs of the library's clients. For the past several years at NIH, James has been creating Drupal-based sites for virtual research collaboration, systematic reviews, and research portfolio management. James has also been leading efforts to create researcher portfolios using VIVO and exploring the use of bibliometric tools to help with scientific research evaluation and validation. Previously, James' efforts transformed the Naval Research Laboratory's library from a print-based traditional library to a cutting-edge digital library.
James is very active in the Special Libraries Association (SLA), serving as 2010 President of the DC Chapter, convener of the SLA Information Futurist Caucus, chair of the SLA Nominating Committee (2012), and a member of two national conference planning councils. James speaks regularly on the future impact of technology on libraries and on the role of libraries in researcher metrics. James has a Master in Library & Information Science from Catholic University of America (2002) and a Bachelors of Computer Graphics from Salem International University (1989). James has served on several industry library advisory boards and has received several recognitions including SLA Fellow (2011), SLA Innovations in Technology Award (2006), and ALA's Federal and Armed Forces Libraries Round Table Achievement (2006) and Distinguished Service (2003) Awards. In his 'free' time, he and his wife Carla are active in their church's children's ministry and spoil their little daughter Sarah. |
